'Amazing Race' to Go Down Under for Its First Aussie Show

Where: Australia

Looks like we're not the only ones who heart The Amazing Race. Australia is gearing up for its first season of the show. More than 40,000 aspiring racers applied to run Amazing Race Australia, which is supposed to air next month.

Unfortunately, those Down Under don't get Phil as a host. But some might argue that they get someone better: True Blood's vamp-blood-drinkin' werewolf Grant Bowler. Though like Phil, the Australia-raised host does have New Zealand ties; Bowler was born there.

And like its U.S. sister, the Aussie show will be a globe-trotting adventure filled with roadblocks, detours, U-turns and, of course, eliminations. Eleven teams will race 31,000 miles, four continents, 12 countries and 23 cities in a month. Though unlike the million bucks Americans compete for, Australians will vie for a $250,000 prize. The already filmed series will begin at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

As is customary for the popular show, there will be the usual cast of characters, including reunited sisters, a fighting couple, a parent-child team, farmers and models (one of which is a beauty queen). We wonder if they'll be sent to the U.S. and forced to endure exotic challenges like eating White Castle or McDonald's.
