Air Canada Begins Flying Their Bombardiers to Toronto City Airport on May 1

We’ve been following the ongoing battle at Billy Bishop Airport, and it now looks like Air Canada will finally be landing at Toronto-City. Just to recap, the airline has been trying to bring back its turboprop service to the smaller—yet super convenient—airport right outside the comings and goings of downtown Toronto after stopping service in 2006.

For quite some time, Porter Airlines has been the exclusive commercial airline with access to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, and thanks to the lack of a true competitor, they’ve done pretty well with their service to Canada and the United States.

Now it looks like things are changing—although we’re sure Porter Airlines is prepared for the battle to heat up—as Air Canada will start up service on May 1. Tickets for the new routes between Toronto and Montreal go on sale today, and all flights will be flown thanks to a little help from Sky Regional Airlines and their fleet of Bombardier Q-400s.

A little competition is probably a good thing, but we’re just hoping that Porter Airlines can continue to win over plenty of customers with their awesome service. As far as we know, there’s no free in-flight snacks, drinks, or lounge access when you choose to fly with Air Canada.
