Where to Go with Your Tax Refund: Italy

Tax day is coming, and you are excited not because you look forward to sifting through receipts and credit card statements, but because you're getting a fat refund...probably. The economy may be on its way back up, but you should try to stretch that tax refund as far as you can.

If Uncle Sam is padding your wallet after tax day, and you don't feel like a tropical getaway, consider a trip to Italy. The Land of Pasta is a perfect tax refund vacation, since websites like Travelzoo and Kayak Deals regularly run tons of package deals.

You can book everything from a three-night hotel stay in Rome with a full breakfast daily and a bus tour for $295 to an eight-day vacay in the Amalfi Coast with six hotel nights, daily breakfast and seven-day car rental for $1,199. There's plenty to see, whether you want a historic trip to Rome, a romantic trip to Venice or a foodie feast in Bologna.

Any time is a good time to visit Italy, really. The temperature is pretty temperate year-round, as long as you stay way from the Alps. Though, you'll likely want to head there sooner rather than later. Since the Jersey Shore will start filming its fourth season there next month, the country might become overrun with American tourists, specifically imitation Situation gorillas and Snooki guidettes. You've been warned.
