GOOD Does a Very Good Thing and Maps the USA's Best Craft Beers

February 14, 2011 at 2:41 PM | by | Comment (1)

It's Monday and therefore the best idea we've heard of yet today has been to combine the above map (see a supersized version here) with Hertz's $5 rental deal and the words "epic road trip." The map is the result of a reader poll from GOOD, ranking each state's best "sustainable, independently-owned craft beer." We kinda wonder why they aren't printing these in regulation dorm poster size, but at least this lovely infographic exists.

For New York, GOOD found Sixpoint tops while California's top swig is Lagunitas. Of all 49 states—Idaho has no notable beers that fit this poll—we're personally biggest fans of Ohio's winner, Great Lakes Brewing. Their Commodore Perry IPA and Edmund Fitzgerald Porter are something truly awesome, but when drinking the latter with friends, someone will inevitably launch into whatever verses of the Gordon Lightfoot song they know. Good times.

Our recommendation: print the full map, fold, and keep in your glove compartment in case of impromptu road-tripping.

Wild Heaven is hardly

Wild Heaven is hardly Georgia's best, In Fact, I think they're still technically still a homebrewing operation. Terrapin of Athens wins regularly at GABF, brews more than 2 styles of beers, and is definitely the right choice for Georgia's Best. Others to mention include Moon River in Savannah, Sweetwater of Atlanta, Red Brick and the great Brew Pubs and Microbreweries turning Atlanta into a great beer city. That Said, Wild Heaven makes great beers, both of em are drinkable. Best in Georgia, not even close.
