Tom Cruise Takes the Taj Mahal for 'Mission Impossible 4,' Despite a Small Scandal

Tom Cruise spent a whirlwind weekend in India, taking part in everything from a photo-op at the Taj Mahal to an all-night party in Mumbai, but it's his "fans" who are making headlines overseas.

According to the Hindustan Times, hundreds of the fans who were waiting for Cruise to arrive at the Mumbai Airport weren't fans at all, but rather "junior artists" being paid 150 INR ($3) for the day. One of the "fans" even admitted she never heard of Tom Cruise before arriving at the airport for her paid gig. That's a bit farfetched (who hasn't heard of Tom Cruise), but let's go with it.

The reports didn't seem to phase Tom, who spent much of Saturday afternoon posing for photos outside the Taj Mahal in Agra with Anil Kapoor, who co-stars with Cruise in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Kappor told reporters:

Tom was absolutely mesmerized by the Taj. He loved the fact that such a monument could be built in the 15th century. He loved it.

Later the two actors and 150 of their closest friends, partied until 1:30 am at the Taj Mahal Palace and Towers in Mumbai. At least Bollywood star Preity Zinta seemed excited Cruise was in town; after the party she tweeted:

Just finished dinner with Anil, Tom Cruise & their guests! What a Gracious host Anil is & OMG ! Tom used to be my heart throb in Top Gun!
