Etihad, JetBlue and United Bring It with This Week's New Routes

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· Etihad Airways:
There’s been a few flights trickling back into Libya now that things have—uh, stabilized—a bit, and now it’s time for the National Airline of the United Arab Emirates to do their thing as well. Etihad Airways is planning to fly some planes between Tripoli and Abu Dhabi beginning on January 17. Initially the flights will arrive via a stop in Alexandria, Egypt, but the flights will supposedly become a nonstop option once the airport in Tripoli can handle a little more traffic. Flights are scheduled to do their thing three times a week, so if you still need a collectable Tripoli shot glass for your collection, you know what to do.

· VietJetAir:
If you haven’t heard of VietJetAir—that’s okay—we just learned about them too! They’re the region’s newest low cost carrier, and they’re planning to do their thing starting on December 25—that’s Christmas in case you didn’t know. According to our pals over at AirlineRoute.net, the new airline will offer a couple daily flights between Ho Chi Minh – Hanoi, and if all goes well they’ll up it to thrice per day starting in January. After that, the plan is to link Ho Chi Minh with Da Nang beginning in February—happy holiday hopping in Vietnam!

· United:
Looks like there’s quite a bit of business between Houston and Edmonton, eh? That’s because United is starting up a second daily flight between the two cities beginning in February of 2012. The flights will do their thing thanks to a little bit of help from the carrier’s fleet of Boeing 737s, and will continue to head back and forth until at least the summer. Sure it’s hardly the flight you’ve been dreaming for, but we bet there’s some cool stuff to do In Edmonton that’s worth checking out—at the minimum there’s a hockey team to watch!

· JetBlue:
They can’t stop when it comes to flights to, from, and around the Caribbean, and now JetBlue is doing it again. The airline know for free TV and ubiquitous snack opportunities is on the move, and the plan is to now link Fort Lauderdale, FL—with Kingston, Jamaica. The new routes will start doing their thing on April 30 of next year, and there will be a couple flights each and every day of the week. There’s probably a lot of connecting flight opportunities here, but for those in Florida this is a great option for a quick weekend escape.

· Delta:
Residents of the Motor City—and those, like us, who love connecting through Detroit—are getting access to more baguettes and croissants. Air France already flies nonstop to Paris, but now they’re buddies over at Delta are going to start doing the same. Delta starts up seasonal service to and from Paris beginning on June 1 and continuing the flights throughout the summer season. We’d hope that a little competition on the route would bring costs done, but since both carriers are part of SkyTeam we’re thinking they’ll be watching one another. Still, the more the merrier when it comes to flights to France.
