Get Ready to Be Squeezed! Transaero Will Pack the Back of Its A380s

We’ve known about the cool new routes and airfare offerings from Russia's Transaero, and now it looks like they’re looking for more. The airline just called up Airbus and tentatively ordered a whole bunch of A380s, so now it’s time to start taking the carrier pretty darn seriously.

It won’t be too luxurious aboard these birds—like the offerings from Singapore Airlines or Korean Air—and that’s because they’re jamming the passengers into the cabin. They’re certainly taking full advantage of the double-decker capacity, as they’re looking to cram upwards of 700 passengers into these planes.

We knew it would only be a matter of time before an airline decided to use the A380 to its full capacity, and it looks like Transaero might just be that carrier.

In total the deal between Airbus and Transaero is going to cost about $1.5 billion to order the four new planes, so we kind of understand that they’ll need to fly many paying passengers to earn that back. Even though they’re going for quantity over quality, there will still be three different classes of service, so you might just get some decent caviar up aboard Russia’s second largest airline.

Right now there aren’t any final decisions for routes, but with four engines and plenty of gas the planes can reach spots all around the globe. They’re not done yet either, as they’re even chatting with Boeing about ordering some of those new 747-8s before too long. Keep an eye out for this airline—they’re going places—ha.
