Boeing's Brand New 787 Takes a Tour...a Round-the-World Tour

It’s time to check out the Boeing 787 in action, as the airplane manufacturer is getting ready to send its plane out and about on a world tour. They want everyone to know how great the new plane is—and oh ya—they are probably eager to score a few more orders for the composite aircraft.

For the next six months Boeing will be sending the plane all over the place—both to current customers and potential passengers—in hopes of sharing the next step forward in airplane technology. The only bummer is that there’s no stops planned for North America just yet, but we don’t mind heading out on a little bit of a road trip to see our airplane friend once again.

Things kick off at the beginning of next month with a few stops in China, including Beijing, Guangzhou, and Haikou. After that it’s off to Africa to see some potential customers in Ethiopia and Kenya. They’re also planning to swing through Doha to say hello to Qatar Airways, and after that the schedule is still up in the air—ha.

They do promise that they’ll announce more details of future stops like a month in advance, as the 'Dream Tour' will run through April of 2012. That means they’ll probably make their way to some US spots before sending the plane back into the hangar. The test plane has had its engineering do-dads removed, and now it’s full of comfy seating, LED lighting, and those snazzy automatic window shades. Though there will likely be press tours of the 787 in its destinations, unfortunately there's no free test-drives—bummer.
