Making a 'Scoot' to Singapore Will Officially Be an Option in 2012
We knew it was coming, and now it’s here—well, kind of. Singapore Airlines’ newest business venture—its very own low-cost carrier—has been unveiled and it’s going to be known as “Scoot.”
Scoot will be using Boeing 777s to serve the new low-cost routes, and if everything goes as planned it should be up and running by June of 2012. The airline’s base will be in Singapore—obviously—doing its thing to and from the city’s awesome Changi International Airport. The exact routes haven’t been announced just yet, but they’re planning to focus on routes between five and ten hours from the main hub. That means lots of Asia, plenty China, along with some spots in Australia.
The new carrier will likely be more of a budget option, but industry analysts and other smartypants speculators believe that there will be a few little luxuries. We don’t know if this means in-flight meals or entertainment, but if it’s coming from an airline like Singapore we wouldn’t be too surprised. As a start, there will be two different cabins of seats available, and you will get to select a spot to sit when you book your ticket.
For now we’ll be anxiously awaiting the new airline’s livery and logo, as well as the potential for long-haul cheap flights between Singapore and the United States. Fingers crossed.
