It's widely said that the day before Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year, but really some summer days can be just as hectic. Still, with Americans scrambling to get home to eat a feast of turkey/tofurkey and stuffing, the airports aren't exactly a picnic in late November.

Curious to see exactly how high roundtrip prices for Thanksgiving flights have gotten, we headed over to place some sample trips into Hipmunk.

Here's the cheapest fares we found:

These fares are for flights leaving Wednesday, November 23 and returning Sunday, November 27.*

· New York to Chicago: $386 EWR-ORD on Continental, or $406 LGA-ORD on United

· San Francisco to New York: $793 SFO-LGA on United with a plane change, or $818 SFO-JFK direct on Virgin America

· Los Angeles to San Francisco: $211 LAX-SFO on United or $271 LGB-SFO on JetBlue (found on JetBlue's website)

· Denver to Detroit: $552 DEN-DTW on Delta

· Chicago to Minneapolis: $195 ORD-MSP on Delta

· Boston to Los Angeles: $779 BOS-LAX on American

· Washington DC to Cleveland: $367 on Continental

· Milwaukee to Palm Beach (for the snow birds): $540 on Delta with a plane change

* Remember that prices can go up (or down) at any time, and flights may sell out.
