2012 May Bring the Beginning of a Singapore 'Scoot' Airline

Over the summer we heard about Singapore Airlines’ plan to maybe start-up some kind of long-haul, low-cost carrier and finally the wheels have been put into motion.

It sounds like the new off-shoot airline is ready to move forward beginning next year in 2012 and the airline will utilize four Boeing 777s to start. If everything goes as planned they’ll definitely look to add more jets, as plans call for as many as 16 different planes doing their thing by the end of 2016.

The most exciting news is that it sounds like there’s a chance that the new airline could make it all the way to the United States. Possible nonstop options will include flights from Singapore—obviously—to spots in and around Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the aforementioned nifty fifty. It’s going to be pretty much an all-economy affair when it comes to seating, as the airline will offer about 400 places to grab a seat compared to like 320 on a traditional Singapore Airlines 777.

As far as a name is concerned, nothing is official just yet, but the leading contender is “Scoot.” Short and sweet—but we’ll wait on forming an opinion until everything is official and whatnot. Until then, we'll be adding some change to our airfare piggy bank.
