What's In Your Carry-on, Jillian Smith?

Travel voyeurs, every last one of us! It's time for a new series wherein you show off what you're working with. That is, what necessities make it into your carry-on bag. Want to be featured? It's crazy simple. Shoot us an email with a nice big photo of your bag contents and a little bit about why they have pride of place in your carry-on. And of course include your Twitter handle if you so desire.

Next up in the series after peeking into the bags of Max Graham, Annemarie Dooling, Megan Starr and The Points Guy, we've got Jillian Smith, PR executive extraordinaire and bi-coastal jetsetter.

If I'm going to be away for a week or less, I rely on my Filson wheeled carry-on. It holds everything and still manages to make me feel like the chicest traveler in the airport (or train station.)

I'm always with at least one laptop, usually a Mac and a PC, and though I work in the digital division, I'll use any computer until its last breath, and then some. This VAIO has been rebuilt a few times, but I just won't let it go.

The mask is from the NYC immersive experience "Sleep No More," which I finally checked out last week after my photog friend, Travis Commeau, and celeb blogger buddy, Trent Venagas, had seen it multiple times with rave reviews. I hear Punchdrunk, the producers, are toying with a travel experience. I'm in!

The random pile of junk are the real travel heroes: extra headphones for the free TV I get as a Summit member on Frontier Airlines, Mahogany perfume from Demeter (LOVING I can now get it for $15 at Duane Reade!), Arctic Chill gum, random outdoor kid chapstick, eyedrops and a make up bag of the essentials so I'm always meeting-ready. I never check jewelry, so there are always a few pieces of chic but affordable pieces—the good stuff typically stays at home.

While a carry-on is great, I never know what new treasures I'll find at my destination so I always bring along my telephone-print Jeremy Scott x Longchamp bag from the collection I worked on with him during my time at Cotton Inc. It folds up to a teeny tiny size just in case I find something I can't leave behind.

Reading material is a must, but as much as I want to be one of those productive business travelers, I prefer to zone out in a good read once we hit altitude. I try to keep two on hand. In this case, teen horror fiction with the Replacement, and Everybody Loves Our Town, a series of interviews with 90's icons.

Finally, I always travel with a few key wardrobe items in case my checked luggage is lost or I don't have time to stop at my hotel. 192 Doves, the denim line by Rubin Chapelle, makes the best skinny jeans with a perfect ankle stack. Paired with my favorite knit (no wrinkles) Rag and Bone blazer, I know I'll be dressed appropriately no matter who I run into. They're buried, but the Billy Reid for K-SWISS faded black sneaks are also a must-have, especially for long hikes to grand transport like at DIA. Oh, and lots of extra undies. The 5 for $20 options at Target give Hanky Panky a run for their money.

About the Author: Jillian is the senior lead for the digital division at Turner PR, a travel and active lifestyle PR firm with offices in Denver and NYC. A former full-time New Yorker, she now splits her time between the firm's two offices as well as those of her clients like K-SWISS, Filson and Travaasa.
