Tweet of the Week: The TSA Gets Touchy-Feely with Christian Louboutins

Aw heck no. The TSA can take our liquids and our iPad stands and our hair trimming shears, but when they reach to confiscate our shoes...that's crossing the line. Thanks to Racked.com, we've been alerted today to the fact that the TSA may want an extra, up-close look at your fancy footwear, especially if they happen to be metal-studded $1,200 luxury loafers. We're talking about infamously scarlet-soled Christian Louboutins, of course.

While flying back to the states via St. Maarten from a New Year's on St. Barths, artist/designer/producer (and supremely annoying tweeter) Taz Arnold (@tAzArnold) had his Louis Vuitton carry-all searched by security, and tweeted the above picture of not one—but three—TSA officers copping a feel on his shoesies:

why did airport security TSA try and jAck my 'louboutin$' these are weApon$! wtf? killA $wAg! - t$a http://twitpic.com/3mirba

Now just to spell out why the possibility of the TSA taking Louboutins is so offensive: for one, they're expensive. For another thing, the purchase of Christian Louboutins is often viewed as an "i've made it" move. Red soles have come to signify success, even more than sexiness. Just look at Oprah—she's been wearing Louboutins nearly exclusively through her final season, and Martha Stewart is so devoted to them that she has her assistants paint over the red soles to disguise her addiction to Louboutin. But yes—there are men's shoes, such as the loafers being look at by the TSA above.

Although we understand why the TSA may want to see them—they probably showed up all spiky on the bag scanner—the moment they try to take them is the moment we'll Google to find a nearby airport to fly out of instead.
