The AFP has the deal on the first transsexual round of FA hiring at PC Air:
Thailand has one of the largest transsexual populations in the world and its surgeons have pioneered ever cheaper and quicker sex change techniques for those opting to go under the scalpel.
But the airline does not require applicants to have gone through a surgical procedure, merely that they meet job criteria, including language skills and good service.
'When it's their dream job or the job they love, they can do it even better,' [PC Air CEO] Chan said.
Many of the applicants stated that they had been discriminated against in previous job interviews with other airlines, but here's the weird part: even though they will be regular stewardesses with PC Air, because of possibly customs issues, they will have to wear a "third sex" nametag pinned to their uniform. That is just not right, but unfortunately necessary if they want to work certain flights that land in countries with a more closed outlook.
And now we could make a joke about AirTran, but we won't because we like to think we're classier than that.
