Help Build Habitat For Humanity's First Eco-Tourism Village

January 26, 2011 at 4:41 PM | by | Comment (1)

Habitat for Humanity is creating its first international eco-tourism community in Soran, Indonesia and you can be a part of it.

H4H is teaming up with Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) to establish a eco-tourism village made up of more than 420 homes and guest accommodations near Indonesia’s famous Prambana Temple. Does that sound intriguing at all? Because they are, of course, looking for some good help to move the project along.

There is no place that needs the homes more than Soran, where more than 60 percent of the population lives below the poverty line. The project will not only improve the housing conditions for local families, but it will also establish a sustainable, eco-friendly tourism and hospitality business built on the region's cultural traditions.

The three-year plan will also include additional space and facilities in some of the homes to accommodate future eco-tourists that may visit historic Central Java. The homes will also be made earthquake-proof, with 20 percent of APP’s annual contribution being used for ongoing disaster relief.
