Would You Pay $8 to Rent an In-Flight Entertainment Gadget?

When we first saw that low-cost international airline Iceland Express was going to begin service between Orlando and Reykjavik in October, we got pretty curious about what sort of in-flight entertainment they offer for such a lengthy flight, if any.

Imagine our surprise when, while idly flipping through the online version of their duty-free catalog (check that out here), we happened across an ad for exactly what we were looking for—IFE of some sort. Like Alaska Airlines and their little "digEplayer" rental united, Iceland Express has a handheld option available onboard.

No seat-back TVs it seems, but this little jobby boasts "movies, TV shows, children's programmes, documentaries, music and games." So now—how much does it cost? If you've brought your own headphone, you'll be paying 1,000 ISK ($5.60) to use one during your flight, or 1,500 ISK ($8.41) for the system plus some nice headphones to borrow. That's cheaper than an alcoholic drink!

But what do you think? Would you pay between $5-$8 to use this iPad-like device during a flight? Tell us in the comments!

Gadgets to rent

The only way you would get me to pay for IFE would be if the flight was longer than 3 hours. I prefer to travel lite, no gadgets, so renting IFE would be a perfect option....but the price has to be right also.

Oh gross, no

I have serious doubts that the provided entertainment is anything I'd pay for in the first place, let alone on some crap in-flight device. I've got my own digital media collection of books, music, and movies and flights are one time I really look forward to having some alone time with MY stuff.

I WOULD like to go to iceland. Can I go to iceland for $8.41? I'd totally do that.
