Vintage Pan Am Artifacts May Get Their Own Museum in Miami

We love reminiscing over what airline travel used to be like; however, we understand that an in-flight veal cutlet isn’t going to be on our tray table anytime soon. Thankfully many share our dream of experiencing the travel memories of yesterday, and one group is looking to dedicate an entire museum to all things related to Pan American World Airways.

Former Pan Am airline employees are seriously considering permanently installing their artifacts, souvenirs, and stories somewhere in and around Miami. After all, the southern city was one of the major hubs from where Pan Am sent its clipper aircraft around the world for the better part of the 20th century.

For now there’s plenty of cool Pan Am stuff to see at the University of Miami's Historical Museum of Southern Florida, but the Pan Am Historical Foundation is just itching for somewhere bigger and better where larger numbers of the public can have access to the memories of yesteryear.

Currently the Pan Am fan club is planning to chat with City Hall officials about some available space which could serve as home to all things Pam Am. It’s still on the drawing board, but we’ll let you know what admission will be and when/if they’re cutting the ribbon.

PanAm FT

Somewhere I still have a PanAm FT (Frequent Traveler) luggage tag. I wasn't really a very frequent traveler with them, but you could ask for that status and they would grant it if you looked the part. The tag is several years older than the first official mileage program (AAdvantage), and I was never clear as to what one received for being a PanAm FT. Maybe just an ego boost that would encourage loyalty. You see where that got us!
