Oh No! Boeing Pushes 787 Deliveries Into 2011

We had a bad feeling that we would be sharing this news at some point this year. Despite numerous promises and confirmations that all was well and that things were going smoothly, it looks like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner will be delayed once again.

Yesterday Boeing was apparently picking up the phone to call some of its first customers to let them know that the bird won’t be quite ready in 2010, and now this morning a company statement has made it official.

Boeing now will deliver the first 787 sometime during the middle of the first quarter of 2011. They’re blaming it partly on some engine difficulties that we mentioned last week, as well as issues with the horizontal stabilizer and other instrumentation delays.

All Nippon Airways—who was expecting to get a new jet just in time for 2011—stated that they found the latest delay “regrettable.” We’re pretty certain they’re pissed at this point, but all they can do is wait. It’s not like Airbus has an all-new composite aircraft that they can just order instead. There’s plenty of other carriers awaiting their orders as well, but Boeing hasn’t confirmed which carriers are getting bumped out even more.
