The Cayman Islands Get Ready to Serve Up Their First Restaurant Week

Conch fritters are an island specialty.

We always keep our eyes and stomachs peeled for Restaurant Week deals. And up until now, they've all been in major U.S. cities like LA, New York and Chicago. But we're happy to report that the Cayman Islands are jumping on the gourmet-feast-for-less bandwagon with their first Cayman Restaurant Week from August 1 to 8.

More than 30 of the island's restaurants will offer special multi-course prix fixe lunch and dinner menus during the week-long promotion, and many eateries will suggest optional wine pairings with each course.

The islands are home to more than 140 nationalities, so their cuisine is equally diverse. The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman's Periwinkle should be a sure bet, with its alfresco terrace overlooking the lagoon. This Italian restaurant will serve up chicken piccata and swordfish putanesca for Restaurant Week. For more authentic island fare, try Mezza. The local restaurant will offer a dish that the Cayman Islands are known for: conch fritters.

Lunch will cost $20 CI, or $25; dinner will be $35 CI, or $43. If you want to imbibe with your meal, wine pairings will be an additional $20 CI.

Cayman Airways is partnering with the event to offer a promotion. For every online reservation you make, you'll be entered into a drawing to win a trip for two on the airlines.
