Inside Jetblue's New $6 In-Flight Snack Boxes

Please welcome...Jetblue's in-flight meals! But Jetblue doesn't serve more than Terra Blue potato chips and a few other snacks, right? Wrong. One month ago, Jetblue introduced their new $6 snack boxes, available on select flights over 3 hours and 45 minutes, and only onboard their A320 planes.

We got our hands on two of the varieties—the Shape Up and Power Up boxes—after our friends returned from a 5-hour flight from St. Lucia to JFK this weekend. And—amazing as it sounds—they paid the $6 each for these boxes on their credit cards and didn't eat them! They saved them just for us, so we had untainted and uneaten snack boxes to peruse and photograph for you.

We ate them later, though. So check out what's inside the boxes and our thoughts on the assortments:

Shape Up: This pack appealed to us the most, and indeed it looks the healthiest. Pear slices are a creative addition and nothing is going to be messy. Everything can be eaten all at once, passed around to friend or family, or saved for snacks later.
· Natural almonds: 100 cal
· Zesty snack mix: 118 cal
· Dried asian pear slices: 28 cal
· Pita chips: 170 cal
· Sun-dried tomato hummus dip: 63 cal
· Sunmaid raisins: unknown cal
· Moist towelette

Power Up: With beef jerky and chips & salsa, this pack is probably the easiest sell for guys. The pretzel sticks and raspberry honey mustard dip are really tasty, and we'd recommend eating these and the salsa chips with dip first to get the messier items out of the way. If you want to save the other items for snacks later, they'd then be perfect.
· Pretzel sticks: 100 cal
· Raspberry honey mustard pretzel dip: unknown cal
· Tortilla chips: 180 cal
· Heinz salsa dip: unknown cal
· Beef jerky: 50 cal
· Sweet & salty cashews: 140 cal
· Lemon-scented moist wipe

So what do you think? Would you pay $6 for them on a long Jetblue flight?

Snack packs

I usually buy snack packs for my children just because they keep them entertained--the more packages to wrestle with the better! The Shape Up looks like it will fit the bill since I choose by the contents and which child prefers which snacks. Having hummus is a great idea and the moist towelette is worth at least 5 minutes of hand washing! While flying, the pack is also a good way for children to try more "grown-up" foods in small quantities.
