New Route News from British Airways, Lufthansa and More

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· British Airways:
We’ve always wanted to go to Sweden to see where Volvos and all that Ikea furniture comes from, and now it’s a little bit easier thanks to British Airways. The airline has announced plans to serve Gothenburg, and they put the tickets up for sale earlier this week. Things will get underway on November 28, and the flights will operate twice per day. Of course the flights will come and go from London-Heathrow’s Terminal 5, so be sure to stick to carryon luggage only.

· Tiger Airways:
If Taipei is on your travel bucket list, Tiger Airways is hoping to help you get there and to save you some cash doing so. The airline plans to start flying Singapore-Taipei on January 11, and it'll be the airline’s sixth destination to the greater China area. The new route will set you back about $60 each way through March, but will probably climb a little bit after that. The airline is also increasing their flight frequency to Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau, and Shenzhen. All the flights will head out from Singapore.

· Lufthansa:
We knew Lufthansa had their eyes on Iraq earlier this year, and it doesn't stop this year. It looks like they are planning on another destination within the country. The carrier expects to launch service to Baghdad beginning September 30. Now that Iraqi Airways has been shut down, it’s probably a good time to start some new service to the airport, but we’ll probably still hold off on our visit for a few more years.

· Virgin America:
Remember when Virgin America was all hot and heavy over flying to Orlando? We do, but then the airline kind of put the new destination on the back burner. Well we finally have confirmation that it’s going to happen, and it looks like nonstop service from both Los Angeles and San Francisco to Orlando will begin on October 6. Flights were originally supposed to start in August, but apparently there weren’t enough planes to fly the new routes. We’re still waiting for the official confirmation regarding Chicago, even though they've been saying "it's next, it's next!" for a couple years now.

· Spirit Airlines:
Cheap travelers with low expectations rejoice, as Spirit Airlines and their $9 fares have some news for you. The airline that charges for everything will start new service from Chicago-O’Hare to Las Vegas beginning on November 11. If you prefer more hairspray with your gambling, the airline will also start service to Atlantic City, but this won’t start until March of next year. Spirit should start some kind of in-flight gambling on these routes. Maybe a little bulkhead baccarat?
