SkyTeam Celebrates 10th Anniversary with 30% Off Around-The-World Tickets

July 21, 2010 at 10:31 AM | by | Comment (1)

We love a good airfare sale, but when around the world travel is involved, we love it all the more. Until September 30, you can score SkyTeam's around-the-world ticket for up to 30% off.

The offer is to celebrate the airline alliance's 10th anniversary after it began in 2000 with just four members—Delta, Korean Air, Air France and Aeromexico. Now that they're up to 13 member airlines, including newest joiners Vietnam Airlines and Romanian carrier TAROM, you can really push that around-the-world ticket into some exotic locations.

Here's an example of ticket savings, as shown on Star Allianace's website:
Amsterdam–New York-Los Angeles-Seoul-Shanghai-Amsterdam booked with KLM.

The regular price including surcharges and government tax, adds up to a total of € 2,901.82
With the Round the World promotion, the fare will be € 2,302.82
Total mileage: 18,125 miles

That's a savings of 600 Euros, or $770 dollars at today's exchange rate. Sadly, the special cannot be booked online and you'll have to have your five maximum stopovers decided on already.

The full terms & conditions:

·Booking must be made before 30 September 2010
· Travel must start on/after 15 July 2010 and on/before 31 December 2010
· The maximum stay is 6 months, the minimum stay is 10 days
· A maximum of five stopovers is permitted
· Total travel miles may not exceed 20,000 miles (except for travel originating in Kenya, in that case 22,000 miles is permitted)
· Airline members issuing the special Round the World promotion tickets are: Aeroflot, Aeroméxico, Air France, Alitalia, China Southern, Czech Airlines, Delta, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air and TAROM. Vietnam Airlines will join from 20 July 2010.
· This special fare cannot be booked online

Call it a promotion, not a sale

Careful, this 10th anniversary sale may not be the best deal out there. We crunched the numbers for All Alliance News, and SkyTeam's "sale" RTW pass is actually MORE expensive on a per-mile basis than its regular RTW pass -- at least when you purchase through Delta.
