Help Rebuild a Fence in Britain and Get a Sweet Tax Write-Off

Instead of spending your next trip to Europe at the usual tourist traps, BTCV is giving you the opportunity to explore the countryside, while helping to preserve it.

BTCV (which originated as the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) plans volunteer vacations throughout the world, including various locations across the United Kingdom. Prices range from $70 to $1,000 (not including travel expenses to get to the location), and last from 2-15 days.

One of their upcoming trips, which is typical of the work they do, will spend 3 days at the Maidencroft farm in Somerset, England. The 43-acre organic farm is frequently used by local volunteers and schools as a learning resource. Volunteers will concentrate on one task while they are there: replace a stretch post and wire fencing that has fallen down and is overgrown. They will stay at a lodge on the farm and will be able to explore the surrounding areas (including a number of local pubs) on their downtime. The trip is scheduled to take place on October 15-17. Reservations can be made at Shop.btcv.org.uk.

And, in case you needed any more incentive to join one of BTCV's trips, keep in mind that all travel expenses for volunteer vacations are tax deductible!
