Park Yourself on a Bench Outside of SFO for Some Prime Plane Spotting

The next time you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area, hold off on immediately heading to your hotel downtown and take a little detour right outside the airport. On the border of Millbrae and Burlingame sits a park with the opportunity for some prime plane spotting.

Bayfront Park is just one stop along the San Francisco Baytrail. There’s several parking spots, but just make sure that you don’t accidentally take a ticket and park in the Marriott’s paid lot. There were several taxis and shuttle vans waiting for their next assignment, so you might have to circle the block a couple times to score a spot in the lot.

Depending on the time of the day, you can witness plenty of 777s and 747s heading to other countries and continents. We stayed around 30 minutes in the early afternoon and saw plenty of options from Southwest, United, and KLM. At other times of the day, Virgin Atlantic and British Airways also make an appearance.

If you get hungry, there’s an In-N-Out Burger right around the corner, but better yet, pick up a Double-Double before heading out to the park so that you don’t get hungry during an extended plane spotting session. There’s plenty of benches to grab a seat, or you can just park yourself somewhere in the grass.

Don’t forget to check in if you do visit—we forgot to!

Stop by at lunch...

...and you might just find some Virgin America employees from their HQ hanging out there.
