The most popular of all is Mystic Drawbridge, locatedyou guessed itright next to the drawbridge on Main Street in Mystic. Though the prices are steep (averaging $4 for a cone, $7 for a sundae), the location and homemade flavors, like chocolate peanut buttercup and cherry vanilla, are top notch.
Another favorite on the Ice Cream Trail is Cows & Cones at Alice’s Farm Market in Gales Ferry, CT. In addition to seasonal flavors, they have a variety of thick, homemade ice cream including strawberry shortcake and coffee oreo. All of the ice cream is made on a nearby farm and you can absolutely taste the freshness, as we recently did ourselves. There's also a fruit and veggie stand just a few feet away, but we took a pass on the healthy stuff for the ice cream, of course.
And don't forget the local favorite of Michael's Dairy in New London, CT. Micheal's features unique monthly flavors like Black & Tan, and they host live music acts in their gazebo. Our recommendation here would have to be the extra-thick milkshakes, but their reasonable prices mean you tack on a $3.25 cone without guilt if you want.
