Where and When to Watch the LA Lakers' NBA Championship Parade
When the LA Lakers won the NBA Finals on Thursday night, beating the Boston Celtics 83-79, riots in downtown Los Angeles cast a negative light on the celebrations. But the Lakers will correct this today, when they interact with fans during the (hopefully more orderly) official victory parade, traveling with their families on a customized flat-bed float, equipped with audio. Coaches and the Lakers Girls will follow on double-decker buses.
If you're reading this this morning and you'd like to head down to the parade, which begins at 11am PST, you should leave now to grab a good spot, as the police are expecting up to 2 million fans on the two blocks of South Figueroa Street where it'll all happen. The official route is thus: from the Staples Center, traveling south on Figueroa Street to Jefferson Boulevard, where the parade turns east to end at the Galen Center.
The NBA official website has plotted the parade route on Google Maps, if that helps, but what would really help the most is setting out early enough to avoid the rush for viewing spots. Wear your brightest purple T-shirt and prepare to wave back at Lamar Odom and his Kardashian.
