The Boeing 787 Dreamliner Gets New Engines and a New Movie
Everything continues to go as planned on the Boeing 787's assembly and production, so that before long we’ll be finding out where exactly ANA wants to go with their first plane—so we can book our tickets. But for now we’ll be watching the fifth brand new bird take flight. Plane number five is set for take off next week assuming it passes all its preliminary tests on the ground.
The newest plane is slightly different than all the rest, because this one is using GEnx engines by General Electric—no word on if Jack Donaghy will in attendance for the first flight. Up until this point all the engines have been from Rolls Royce, so it will be interesting to see what this new jet power brings to the table.
Even though there’s still plenty of work to be done on the aircraft, Boeing officials still find the time to fool around. Most recently they finished up work on a feature length IMAX film dedicated to all things flight. The chief test pilot for the new plane stars in the film, as he talks all about what went into construction of the world’s newest commercial airliner. It kind of sounds like one big Boeing commercial, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be getting our tickets this weekend.
