· Alaska Airlines
Alaska Airlines is concerned about your heart safety, and that’s why they offer up the Smart Heart Picnic Pack for just $6. It contains crackers, applesauce, a cookie, almonds, strawberry preserves, and sunflower-seed butter. Even if you decide to pig out and order the fattiest thing on the in-flight menu, you'll still benefit from Alaska Airlines' policy of keeping their foods free of MSG, trans fats, or high fructose corn syrup. They have some good beers too, just in case you prefer your whole grains in liquid form.
· Frontier Airlines
Of course Frontier Airlines will now be known for the in-flight cookies they're bringing over from Midwest Airline's service, but there are some healthier options if you’re trying to watch your figure. For $3, there’s an assortment of oatmeal as well as Kashi cereals, assisting you in attaining those in-flight fiber goals. Some of the longer flights even have somewhat freshly made salads and sandwiches. Just go easy on the dressing and mayonnaise and you should be fine.
· Delta Airlines
On short-haul Delta flights, you’ll usually be stick with peanuts, pretzels, or cookies, but if you’ll be up in the air for a little bit longer, then there are some healthier options. A fruit and cheese plate is available throughout the day, so it can be a good breakfast or lunch substitute for just $6. Fresh berries and yogurt is also a breakfast option for just $3. The airline has teamed up with Todd English for some of the in-flight options, and the $8 Mediterranean Orzo Salad sounds like it could be both tasty and deceivingly healthy. It’s a salad with pine nuts, olives, feta cheese, and basil, which are all far healthier than a bag of potato chips. It’s topped off with olive oil and lemon juice along with pita breadno heavy dressings.
· United Airlines
United Airlines doesn’t offer too much for free at all from the beverage cart, but if you’re willing to part with $7, they will hook you up with some organic snacks. Sure, organic doesn’t always mean healthy, but at least these items are a little less processed than other snack options. The Organic Snackbox comes with Late July organic cheese crackers, Terra Nostra organic dark chocolate, granola, apple chips, and fruit snacks. It kind of sounds like Subway's idea of a "Fresh Fit" meal, but with chocolate instead of a foot-long sub sandwich. United also offers up some other snack boxes that are more than just chocolate and beef jerky. For example, the "Eat For Good" Snackbox has trail mix, chicken salad, and antioxidant drink mix.
