In-Flight Cocktail of the Month: Singapore Airlines' Singapore Sling

May 7, 2010 at 8:30 AM | by | ()

If we've learned anything from some of the best in-flight cocktails, itís that there are plenty of airlines that take in-flight drinks pretty seriously. Singapore Airlines takes pride in pretty much all aspects of air travel, so itís no surprise that they have a cocktail thatís worth the ticket price.

The Singapore Sling has been around since the early 1900s, originally appearing at the legendary Raffles Hotel, but over the years it's made its way to the airplane beverage cart. There are many variations on the original recipe, but if you find yourself up in the air we think the basic formula involves gin, cherry brandy, Cointreau, Grenadine, Angostura bitters, lime and pineapple juice. Just think of it as the grandfather of the Mai Tai, but with gin instead of rum.

If youíre looking to try your first Singapore Sling just beware that sometimes the beverage base is pre-mixed, but hopefully that will never be the case aboard Singapore Airlines.

We'll see you next month with another cocktail, so let us know about your favorites below (or send us an email) to divulge your favorite drinks in the sky!

nice and red

Why does this also make me thirsty for a Shirley Temple? I wonder if any airline serves those.
