Pennsylvania Becomes the First State to Join Foursquare

Yes yes YES! As quick as we've been to add Foursquare into our travel lives, it's been a bit of job nudging the rest of the travel community along. When the city of Chicago became the first city to introduce a Foursquare campaign, we hoped that soon, our check-ins around the world would yield special badges and continue giving us firsthand, indispensable trips from fellow travelers.

And we're happy to report that it is catching on; Pennsylvania has just become the first state to join Foursquare. And yes, badges are involved, as you'll no doubt be happy to hear. The only issue is that, to earn them, you've go to get out into the backroads of Pennsylvania on a—gasp—road trip.

Start roadtripping your way through our big cities, rolling countrysides and PA Wilds, using our tips and leaving a few of your own PA tips for others. And don’t forget to check-in on Foursquare to unlock our custom PA badges: PA Shooflyer (Food), PA Retail Polka (Shopping), and PA 4 Score & 7 (History).

To earn the Retail Polka badge, you could start by visiting Reyer's Shoe store in the small town of Sharon, PA. It's reputedly the largest shoe store in the world, and if you go and find out, you're one step closer to that coveted badge. Other stops on the visitPA list of sites include a Railroad Museum, the Knickerbocker Pub in Altoona, and the Penn State Berkey Creamery, among many others.

You can be friends with the state of Pennsylvania here, and don't forget about us at Jaunted on Foursquare too. In the past month, we've checked in from three countries and as many states, with hints and tips for all.
