The Boeing 787 Dreamliner's Self-Darkening Windows are Head-Turners
If you enjoyed last week's quick look at the interiors of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, then this week will be a doozy. Boeing has just released the above video, showing their in-flight entertainment systems, self-darkening windows and mood lighting systems in testing.
For years, Boeing's group of tech testers has been perfecting these systems and arranging them to work together in the 787, even with power failures and other similar extreme circumstances. Through this quick video, we not only see these dudes describe the very cool darkening windowseach passenger with a window seat controls the opacity of the window with the touch of a button, no more window shadesbut also we see inside what looks to be the First Class cabin and some of coach.
While it's all very plain inside the 787 now, rest assured that when airlines begin taking delivery of 787s, you'll see different seat arrangements and eventually, flight attendants teaching passengers how exactly to work those self-darkening shades on the large windows. For now however, we'll just have to make do imagining all the tech pieces put together and the IFE running smoothly, mood lightning and all.
