'Celebrity Apprentice' Gets a First Peek at 'The Wizarding World of Harry Potter' Theme Park
Last night, if you continued to watch TV after Amazing Race, Trump's Celebrity Apprentice send their project leaders to Orlando, to Universal Studios' "Wizarding World of Harry Potter" theme park for their next project: a traveling marketing experience for the park. With the park's opening date—late May for soft opening and June 18th for Grand Opening—fast approaching, we knew they'd reveal some new stuff on the show, and they did! Those D-list celebrities get to have all the fun.
Heading down from New York to Orlando in a private jet were Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks and disgraced former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, a stranger pair of bedfellows you'd be hard pressed to find. At the theme park, they were given a revealing tour of which the TV audience only got to see Hagrid's Hut for the first time and the selection of products they'd have for sale around the park, like chocolate frogs that were larger than we expected, Gryffindor neckties, magic wands and more. They were to take this inspiration (and some of the goodies) back to New York to construct a mini version of the park which could then act as a traveling show to market the park.
As Bret Michaels drilled "opening at Universal Studios in spring 2010—tell your parents" into the heads of the children assembled to test the teams' creations, it was subliminally drilled into the TV audience as well. The entire episode was then supplemented by commercials for the park, making sure that the parents of kids watching the show know what's going on when their children come to them demanding to go to Universal Studios for vacation this summer. Brilliant marketing, actually.
We don't think we could eat an entire chocolate frog, but we wouldn't mind camping out in Hagrid's cozy hut. Would you?
