Be Whisked Away by Louis Vuitton's Melding of Travel and Fashion
Fashion and travel; two worlds hopelessly and fantastically intertwined. We've often said that we believe fashion people travel more often than travel people, and luxury brands recognize this and position themselves and their high-priced goods accordingly. It only makes sense that the most powerful fashion brand in the world, Louis Vuitton, evokes images of weather-worn steamer trunks and The Grand Tour.
For their fall/winter 2010 collection, Louis Vuitton is trying to get men excited for their clothes, and the individual journeys behind each piece, both creative and physical (to say nothing of carbon footprints). Thus, Vuitton has launched a website mini-trip called "The Journey of a Man's Wardrobe" by photographer Todd Selby, better known for his photographs of the homes of interesting people, showcased at TheSelby.com. They'll have you traveling around the world one click at a time, while you're educated on the cosmopolitan pedigree of their products.
Find out where Louis Vuitton travels, after the jump
The first stop on "The Journey of a Man's Wardrobe" is Paris, as is only proper for the French fashion house. By clicking on Paris, you can "tour" their Workshop, Studio, "Family House," and even a fashion show. Right now the site is still very new, and more destinations will slowly launch through May. Next up is Shanghai, which enters the journey on April 28. You'll find Tokyo on May 5, New York on May 12 and finally London on May 19.
Altogether we think the whole website and concept is super well done, and it properly makes us want to dash off on an ocean liner and go for a personal tailoring appointment like a classic jet-setter. At the very least, it's good for a bit of armchair travel!
