The Latest on the United, US Airways, and Continental Merger Rumors

April 22, 2010 at 8:21 AM | by | Comments (0)

Even though Valentine’s Day is a couple months behind us there are several airlines that continue to pass notes to one another looking for love. First United was all about hooking up with US Airways, but now things have changed slightly. United seems to be a little more interested in Continental, and a merger between these two carriers would create the largest airline in the world—watch out Delta.

Continental and United have started checking out each other’s financial pictures—sounds naughty—but the airlines need to know what kind of mess they’re getting into. At times reports indicated that United and US Airways were getting close to coming together under the United brand, but now it appears that United might be more interested in what Continental can bring to the table. We’re not too familiar with the financial strengths of the airlines, but we do know that we have way more love for Continental than US Airways. Especially after that recent trip on US Airways that left us less than enthused.

Even with United becoming more interested in Continental the airline apparently still remains somewhat intrigued by US Airways. At this point it seems like anything could happen including some kind of three-way deal that brings all the airlines together. We’re big fans of competition and the lower airfare that it creates, so we just hope that all these airline mergers don’t end up screwing us in the end.
