The Top Five Airports for Traveling with Children

March 9, 2010 at 9:35 AM | by | Comments (0)

At this point you should be an expert on the perks kids receive when flying the friendly skies, but there’s also some cool stuff for the little ones to do when they are stuck on the ground. We’ve seen a lot of plastic slides and toy airplanes while racing to our gates, and we’ve rounded up some of our favorite kid friendly play places across the country. Check them out!

· Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport
American Airlines flights usually make a stop at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and that’s totally cool if kids are part of your carry-on luggage. Terminal D—that’s the new one with high ceilings and international departures—has a McDonald’s Play Area right by Gate 33. If you find yourself in Terminal E, there’s another play place with padded floor mats, toys, and plastic things to jump on. Terminal B has the best to offer with its Pepsi Junior Flyer’s Club. It features an air traffic control tower, runway, and airplanes for your little captain.

· Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport
Those that enjoy Delta—AKA the routes formerly Northwest—will be traveling through Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport frequently. There are a couple spots for the kids to let off some steam without being interrogated by the TSA. The best pick is within the Lindbergh Terminal—that's the one with the major carriers—and it’s the play area in Concourse C between gates C12 and C11.

· O’Hare International Airport
For fans of United Airlines, flying through O’Hare International Airport is sometimes the only option. The kids are going to enjoy things just as much as you, so after you get them a Happy Meal it’s time to park it at the airport playground. Kids On The Fly is a place to explore toy helicopters and cargo planes thanks to the folks at the Chicago Children’s Museum. If your kid wants to learn a little something, or is a worrywart, head to the Play It Safe area in Terminal 5. Here she’ll learn all about fire safety and emergency preparation.

· Los Angeles International Airport
If your little ones want to hang out with some famous little ones, like one of the twenty Jolie-Pitts, then make your flight plans through LAX. For the tech-savvy toddler the airport has its own website with kiddie games including crossword puzzles, mazes, and a scavenger hunt. Just make sure to hand over the credit card, because they’ll need some WiFi. Playing it cool online is probably a better bet than using a playground if you're trying to score an invite to the Suri Cruise birthday party.

· Boston Logan International Airport
The Children’s Museum of Boston has installed Kidports into Terminals A and C of Boston Logan International Airport. The one in Terminal A is located around Gate 18 and it features a replica of the airport’s control tower—who knew traffic control could be so fun? Over in Terminal C, the playground is within the departure level of the main terminal area, and kids will be playing right through their layover with access to a baggage claim slide.
