United Gets Going To Ghana, and More New Airline Routes

Let's talk new airline routes! Because we all love some variety...

· United begins direct Ghana flights
The rush to Accra, Ghana is on as both Virgin Atlantic and British Airways announced recently that they'd begin direct service to the African capital from London. Taking the lead in American is United, who will launch direct a direct Accra flight from Washington-Dulles airport on June 21, pending government approval. Next up, United would like to add Lagos, Nigeria to their route map, but we'll see how Accra goes first.

More new routes, after the jump!

· Continental gets lei'd even more in Hawaii
How are the skies above Hawaii not mega-crowded with new flights coming in from all over? Continental will contribute to the ferrying of more passengers to the islands when it begins flights between Los Angeles and Orange County airports to Maui, and another between Orange Country and Honolulu. 'Tis the season for an island vacation, we suppose. The flights begin fairly soon as well, this Sunday actually.

· Ariana Afghan Airlines launches the weirdest route we've heard of, but it probably makes perfect sense to them.
It's already running, and we wonder how many passengers each flights is carrying these days, but the flag-carrying airline of Afghanistan—Ariana Afghan Airlines—is going direct between Kabul and Al Ain, in the United Arab Emirates. We've heard of direct flights to Dubai or Abu Dhabi, but Al Ain? Well, the Afghan airline understandably wants to serve this city because of its large Afghan expat population, so you probably won't see tourists on it anytime soon.
