While the world is still buzzing from this last weekend's Olympics Closing Ceremony in Vancouver, it's time to begin thinking about your plans for attending the next summer Olympic games, which are coming to London in 2012. Because London is such an easy city to reach and such an appealing destination—yeah, we're not talking Lillehammer, Norway or Sochi, Russia here—expect the 2012 games to be packed, expensive, and tons of fun.

Right now—yes, two years out—you should begin to look for hotel specials and ticket packages, and snag airfare when the dates become bookable. We'll elaborate on how to get tickets to events later, but don't forget that there is also a way to see the Olympics for free, and that's by volunteering, which you should also think about right now.

London has obviously been thinking of their Olympics strategy for some time now, even before they won the right in 2005, so now that they're only two years away the heat is definitely on. Just to get you started, here's a list of hotels nearby most of the Olympics sites in East London/Stratford, an ever-updated list of the freshest news and press releases about the games, and of course be sure to brush up on Britishness with our list of the Top 5 Tourist Mistakes in London.

They will be GREAT

I have to say that I am crazy excited about the Olympics in London. They're going to be off the charts. Sochi or socci or whatever it's called, doesn't even have a functioning informational website. THAT is going to be a huge let down.

London in 2012

Couldn't agree more, hosteldog! I too am excited by the prospect of the Games coming to my home city. Also, in that same summer (and not everyone knows this yet :-D ) London and Britain will celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee (60 years on the throne) and London will also be hosting WorldPride. It's going to be interesting! Cheers, Paul London2012uig.com Twitter.com/2012inLondon
