The company performed "Ripples on the Water," which celebrates Women’s History Month by exploring borders and boundaries through the lives and conventional dance forms of women from around the globe. It wasn't a site-specific work, that is to say, the group didn't incorporate the baggage claim surroundings into its work. But it performed the 20-minute routine throughout the day and got a good reception from the travelers.
"The audience fluctuated as passengers moved through the terminal, but we had a steady crowd for each of the three performances," says Melanie Marsh Gale, Eveoke's Director of Programs. "Some people were a little surprised at first to see dancers in the baggage claim, but we found interesting ways to engage with the audience as they passed by us, which made it fun."
Up next on the baggage claim stage is Ballet Folklórico Toltecatl, who will perform in honor of Cinco de Mayo on May 5.
