Here's your chance to hike the Great Himalaya Trail—and we're not talking like "hike the Appalachian Trail" à la South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford. For the first time, a tour operator is bringing groups through the trail on an intensive 157-day hike.

Even experienced hikers will need some help on the Great Himalaya, the longest and highest alpine route in the world. The trail winds between the largest mountains and the most remote communities in the world, connecting Bhutan, China, India, Nepal and Pakistan.

The trail covers more than 2,796 miles from Namche Barwa in Tibet to Nanga Parbat in Pakistan. Don't let that number make you shake in your hiking boots; only the Nepal section is available for trekking and it's only 1,056 miles. Offered through British company World Expeditions, the tour starts at Kangchenjunga and finishes in western Tibet. You'll see eight of the world’s 8,000m peaks, including Everest.

If you can't get 157 days off of work for the hike, it can be broken down into smaller trips, like a 26-day jaunt to Manaslu and Annapurna.

Of course, an extreme trip like this won't be cheap. The all-inclusive tour costs £20,500, or about $31,345. Yeah, that's a lot of coin. But don't worry, you'll have time to save up. The full 157-day shebang starts February 2011.
