Lufthansa Gets a Yelp of Its Own with New 'MemberScout' iPhone App

March 19, 2010 at 9:00 AM | by | Comments (5)

If your social networking dream is to become the Foursquare Mayor of a Currywurst stand in Berlin, then Lufthansa has a new app that might interest you. It doesn’t reward you with badges, but it does help you connect with new friends overseas.

The MemberScout app is now available for iPhone—coming soon for your BlackBerry users—and it allows Miles and More members to chat up one another while on the road. It’s like a Lufthansa-only version of Yelp, where you can share reviews, stories, tips and anything else related to travel. Just ask the app what you want to do, and it will try its damnedest to reveal the best place for dinner and drinks.

Of course you’ll be able to do some of the traditional stuff as well. Feel free to cut loose from the printer and access mobile boarding passes. Check schedules, timetables, and see if your summer vacation flights have finally become affordable. The new app shares some ancestry from several other social networking ideas, so it’s hardly revolutionary, but good for Lufthansa to try to embrace things. It’s totally free—so it’s worth a try—and it’s available in English or German. If we have a practical reason to test it out, we'll be eager to find some friends enjoying a few at the new Biergarten.

Similar apps for travellers of all airlines

Another FREE app is eezeerator which lets you not only leave NOW, instant, reviews of airlines, airports and hotels but you could also connect with users at the same airport or booked on the same flight.

Wrong picture?!

I think the picture is wrong, I've got MS on my iPhone but I think that is Launcher by Lufthansa...

Travel guide

There are so many iPhone travel apps out there today it can be confusing. Call me old-fashioned, but in my opinion there is nothing more effective than using a good travel guide. Before a trip it is always best to check out an online travel guide like http://www.twitter.com/dozentravel. There are now so many iPhone travel apps on the market that people will stop looking at the scenery and enjoying their vacation, instead they'll be using their smartphone to find out info, text, check emails, flight news and whatever else. We managed quite well without travel apps and iphones.

This is a great feature...

Great feature but I hope all airlines can make an common app. I like my apps but I've got like two hundred of them. With many users this can get quite helpful. - Tandblekning

crap app

I'm having major problems with this app. I wish they would update it a bit. <a href="http://www.deathbyburgers.com>hamburgare</a>
