For Valentine's Day, See How Zoo Animals Get Their Swerve On

February 8, 2010 at 4:20 PM | by Jennifer Kester | 3 Comments

It isn't only restaurants and candy manufacturers who are capitalizing on Valentine's Day. Zoos are selling themselves as a romantic place to bring your valentine with special events that revolve around observing animal mating habits. It's like what you see on the Discovery Channel, but live and sometimes accompanied with a meal.

Check after the jump to see which zoos are getting frisky for V-Day.

· Binder Park Zoo
The provocatively and somewhat creepily named Zoorotica event at this Michigan zoo will include a tour exploring the sexual lives of animals, hors d'oeuvres and a DVD presentation on mating. Zoorotica, set for February 13 and 14, costs $35 per person or $65 per couple.

· San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park
For Night Moves, a safari truck will take you around the park in hopes of catching some animals going at it. Your guide will share tales of animals' courtship escapades and you'll hear more about the birds and the bees when you stop off for dessert. Night Moves runs through February 15 and costs $120 per person.

· Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo
At Wild at Heart, you'll learn about the pairing, partnering and mating habits of animals and tour the zoo. You'll also get up close with the critters during a progressive dinner where each course will be served at a different animal habitat. Be careful of unleashing your inner animal at the open bar. Tickets cost $55 per person and are available for February 13 and 14.

· San Francisco Zoo
The popular Woo at the Zoo celebration turns 21 this year. You'll get the animal sex tour and learn about mating. Choose brunch ($60), with a menu that includes mimosas, French toast, fresh fruit, maple sausage, or dinner ($70), with Champagne, beef tenderloin and herbed couscous. Woo will be on February 13 and 14.

· Smithsonian National Zoological Park
The National Zoo also is holding a Woo at the Zoo, but the February 12 event is already sold out. The festivities will include a cash bar, hors d'oeuvres, cupcake decorating, a rose and, of course, an animal expert giving a talk on how animals get freaky.

    Iron-Barred Irony

How ironic that these zoo owners should choose to think outside the box, considering their furry prisoners do this day in, day out (Valentine's Day or not).

    San Diego Night Moves

This has to be the funniest/weirdest valentines idea I've ever read. You get driven around a Zoo trying to be a peeping tom right? Weird
