Alaska Airlines Joins The Electronic Boarding Pass Party

February 25, 2010 at 8:37 AM | by | Comments (0)

Way to go, Alaska Airlines; they're using the upcoming spring to really update their services and not be left behind by technology. The airline just signed up for eventual fleet-wide in-flight WiFi, and now they’re looking to streamline the boarding process while saving some trees. Both Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air have launched the option to use electronic boarding passes.

Thanks to a new mobile website, passengers leaving from cities like Anchorage, Seattle, Las Vegas, and Denver can stop wasting all that valuable printer ink. There are seven cities in total, but if all goes well, they’ll expand things to other cities into March.

At this point the TSA should know what you’re doing when you flash your iPhone along with a government issued photo ID, but we’re sure there’s still a few agents that will be confused over the whole process. Regardless of our issues with the men and women in blue—the TSA, not the police—we can’t wait to do a mobile check-in for our next flight at 35,000 feet. Having our connecting flight boarding pass ready to go before we reach the ground isn’t essential, but combining in-flight WiFi with boarding passes is pretty sweet, you have to admit.
