The Top Five Worst Places To Spend Valentine's Day

February 3, 2010 at 9:30 AM | by kjb | 2 Comments

It’s not too tricky to find a good spot to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Just mix together warmth, sand and sun and typically you’ll be good to go—we’ve even found a few for you. And there’s still plenty of ways to mess things up, a few of which might be taking your sweetheart some of our suggestions below, as these are the worst events and locations to celebrate Valentine’s Day in 2010.

· Roses At The Rodeo In Texas
If you don’t want to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the same person in 2011, then taking him or her to the rodeo for some animal cruelty and men in tight jeans is a great idea. Champion bull rider Tuff Hedeman—apparently he’s a big deal—will be attending the February event at the Bee County Exposition Center. Tickets are just $10 in advance, and the first 100 ladies in attendance will be given a flower. If this was on your radar as a possibility you might as well leave the car running for a quick escape.

· Tea For Two And Two For Tea In Canada
It’s nice when you make your sweetie a glass of tea after a hard day, but it’s not nice to drag them to the largest public tea exhibition in North America. The event runs on February 13 and 14 in Victoria, British Columbia, and it’s $20 to get in the door. There will be limitless opportunity to taste teas, learn about them, and to buy some tasty tea treats; however, we doubt that there’s two people that love tea enough equally to select this for their romantic date night. If you just have to attend think about postponing your trip to 2011—it’ll benefit you in the long run.

· Write Your Own Future In SoCal
You just booked a trip to Los Angeles for a romantic getaway—good for you! Too bad you thought that tickets to the Los Angeles International Pen Show were a good addition to the itinerary. Despite the chance to score a free calendar with your paid admission, this is just not a good pick for February 14. Our advice is to avoid the Manhattan Beach Marriott and its conference rooms and head to Manhattan Beach instead.

· Happiness Is A Warm Gun Outside of DC
For those located near the nation’s capital, there’s too many options for a sweetheart escape to list, so instead we’ll list a bad idea. It’s The Nation’s Gun Show in Chantilly, Virginia. This year’s show is going to have over 1,000 tables displaying guns, knives, and accessories—they’re claiming that’s over 1.5 miles of weapons! Admission is $12 for adults, but unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a discount available to those celebrating the holiday of love.

· Get Your Heart Racing In Florida
This year the ultimate NASCAR event takes place the weekend following the Super Bowl, and it’s the Daytona 500 on February 14. Despite the event’s popularity there are still tickets available, and we found a decent pair in turn four for about $370 for two. You just better ensure that you have some cash leftover to plan a significant beach layover during your race car Valentine’s getaway. The only time to get down on one knee here is if you spill your beer, so save the proposal for another night and another location.

We’re sure we’ve missed some romantic train wrecks, so let us know if you’ve had some awful Valentine’s travel experiences in the comments below. You never know, you might just save someone’s relationship.

    The Nation's Gun Show

So, they're displaying "knifes" at the gun show? Knifes!? Did you forget an apostrophe, or the letter "v"? Great journalism - oh wait...it's not journalism, it's the internet!
