Super Bowl Celebrations Lead To Flight Delays And Aggravated Passengers

We tried to warn you about the traffic jam in New Orleans due to the Super Bowl victory parade, but apparently some didn’t listen to our advice. It seems like there were a couple people not looking to party, and they just wanted to get to work for their scheduled shift. After all, it’s pretty important for pilots to punch in on-time.

Last Tuesday a United Airlines flight was supposed to get out of The Big Easy at around 7pm; however, the pilots weren’t able to make it to the airport due to celebration shenanigans that took up much of the city’s streets. The pilots finally got to the airport like two hours later, but that’s when things got even stranger.

The delayed passengers were obviously a little pissed over the whole situation, and some of them started to claim that the pilots had been drinking. We’re sure some pretty serious parting and drinking was taking place during the parade, but maybe the pilots were actually just coming from their hotel and behaving themselves. One of the passengers even gave 911 a call looking for a little assistance with the whole situation.

Eventually the flight was canceled as the flight crew was past their duty time—pilots can only work so many hours in a day—and the passengers were stuck for the night. The flight was rescheduled and took off Wednesday afternoon without any further issues. We’re sure the passengers were a little cranky, but accusing the pilots of being drunk is a pretty big deal. It seems like they really were just running late, but calling emergency services over a flight delay is one way to expedite the whole process—not that we'd recommend it.
