· Nutcracker: Rated R
You can OD on family-friendly entertainment around Christmastime. If you want some raunch this holiday, try this show. It turns The Nutcracker into a ballet-burlesque bonanza with stripping, drugs, family secrets and sex. This version transplants the story in 1980s New York City. Sweet Clara has turned into a scantily clad rebellious goth teen who hits the seamy club scene. It runs December 9-31 at the American Theatre of Actors in NYC.
· White Christmas
Fans of the classics will swoon over this dance-heavy production based off of the 1954 film starring Bing Crosby. The Irving Berlin musical follows two army buds with a successful song-and-dance act. When the fellas find out that a snowless Christmas is killing their old general's Vermont inn, they decide to use their musical talents to help draw in guests. The seven-city tour is in Chicago, its final stop. The show runs through January 2 in the Bank of America Theatre.
