Atlanta's Zoo Has a New Baby Panda, and You Can Watch Him Grow

Look at those tiny, fuzzy ears! Yes, this is a super newly born panda and yes, the world is cooing over it. He's just gotten old enough to grow in his species' recognizable black-and-white fur, but he's still too young to walk on his own or even open his eyes. According to the Daily Mail, he won't even get a name until he reaches 100 days old, in keeping with Chinese custom, but you can watch him every day until he grows to that point, thanks to the Atlanta Zoo's pandacam.

The Atlanta Zoo is only one of four zoos in the US to house giant pandas; the others are San Diego, Memphis and Washington DC. Regardless, we're reminded that all of the pandas that sleep on US soil in these zoos still belong to China, so this as-yet-unnamed baby is already an important Chinese citizen. When he turns four months old, he will be set out into the enclosure where the public will be able to view him; that's only about three months from now.

Plan your March family trips accordingly; while this little panda won't likely get all the attention of Knut the polar bear, he will melt a multitude of hearts regardless.
