When you want to play a game, DanceDanceRevolution, Guitar Hero or Call of Duty: Black Ops might be your vice of choice. But back in the day, it was Guns n' Roses pinball. The National Pinball Museum opened this month to honor the retro pinging game.

The 14,000-square-foot facility, tucked inside the Shops at Georgetown Park mall in Washington, D.C., is not one of those look-but-don't-touch museums. There's a game room with 40 rotating pinball machines, including the aforementioned GNR game, one devoted to the Twilight Zone and another to Indiana Jones.

The $13.50 admission (children under 9 are free) doesn't just get you access to the pay-and-play machines. There are some educational parts, too. The permanent "History of Pinball" exhibit tells you about the 140-year-old game, from its start as bagatelle, an 18th-century precursor to the arcade game. Other displays look at pinball art and standout individual artists.

Curator David Silverman founded the museum as a home for his collection of more than 800 pinball machines. But the museum also has a theater, library and store that are all about the coin-operated game. Plus, it offers classes on how to make pinball machines from scratch, including woodworking and electronics.
