Where to Get Festivus Salami for the Rest of Us

It's Festivus Eve and we just found out that aside from the airing of the grievances and the mighty aluminum pole, we have neglected to partake in another tradition to mark this yearly anti-holiday: the Festivus salami. According to the person who wrote the book on Festivus (and no, it's not George Costanza), salami pays homage to the Festivus pole, mimicking its shape.

Here are three places where you can pick up your salami to mark Festivus or just enjoy it because you heart the sandwich meat:

· San Francisco
Walk into North Beach's Molinari Delicatessen and you'll spot the salami lined up with other carnivorous delights. The old-school Italian deli specializes in encased meats. People hail its salami as the best in California. Since you're in San Fran, pick up a loaf of sourdough for some delish Festivus sammies.

· New York City
You know that New York is in no short supply of amazing dried meats. But Katz's Delicatessan is an institution. The shop has been serving up salami since 1888 on the Lower East Side. Heck, its website still uses the deli's World War II slogan: "Send a salami to your boy in the Army!" You can also send a salami to your son for Festivus.

· Chicago
It can be difficult to pick just one meat market in the meat-and-potatoes town Chicago. A local favorite is Roger's Park's Romanian Kosher Sausage, which makes a mean garlicky salami. The classic Old World joint turns out a number of all-beef log varieties, and all of them are kosher. An honorable mention goes to Ashkenaz Deli in the Gold Coast.
