Playboy Models and California Moms Complain about Grope-Happy TSA Agents

As we've been saying since the very beginning of the enhanced pat-down search debacle, the problem isn't just the policy but the individuals who get to implement it. TSA has always had problems with bad apples who gleefully abuse their power, which is how we end up with pranks that reduce college girls to tears and stunts that revolve around sports franchises. Simply giving individual agents the ability to do more things to flyers was always bound to lead to more severe abusive behavior, since "ogling" and "groping" are now on the menu.

None of that means, though, that we have to believe every wild tale of TSA abuse. Former Baywatch star and Playboy model Donna D'Errico is insisting that she got pulled aside for full-body scanning because she's hot, which isn't totally impossible to believe ("blond Midwest cheerleader gets pulled aside" stories have been circulating since TSA became TSA in the aftermath of 9/11).

But D'Errico also claims that she didn't have the option of opting out—unlikely—and that she was told she had "caught the eye" of a TSA agents while other agents whispered and giggled about her. In response to skepticism, her evidence that all this happened because of her looks is "her personal belief." Eh.

A little more believable is this story of an incident that happened over the weekend in Albuquerque, where a woman who had undergone a mastectomy was subjected to an extended pat-down. When asked by her son why he wasn't getting the treatment like his mom was—even though in a rational world male teenagers would be subjected to more scrutiny than older mothers—the TSA supervisor told him "well you don’t have boobs."

But even this story is coming from crackpot conspiracy site Infowars, which has been one of the loudest anti-TSA voices during this controversy, and the TSA supervisor doesn't sound malicious as much as he just sounds kind of frustrated. So take it with a grain of salt.

All of that said...this isn't helping.
