Charging our iPhone via a plug in economy

First Class has them, Business Class has them, and—oh my god yes—even Economy has them; we're talking about plugs at your airline seat, and it's a rare yet totally lifesaving offering. On Cathay Pacific flights to and from Hong Kong last week, we flipped down our tray table to discover the little present of having one (with a universal plug) at every seat, and with flights of 14-15 hours, a working outlet can mean productivity, entertainment and a charged iPhone all the way through.

We've taken this exact route, the JFK-HKG direct on Cathay's 777-300ER, several times before on our own, owing to our major love for HK but also for amenities like this (not to mention the super StudioCX in-flight entertainment, which we've been using to slowly teach ourselves Korean thanks to the Berlitz "Word Traveler" program).

Bonus shot: our in-flight brownie. Just 'cause.

Aside from the chocolate brownies that arrive with dinner, there is almost nothing sweeter than seeing the green indicator light hiding behind the tray table, which means that you've got a outlet and it is ready to charge, even at 40,000 feet above the Arctic Circle. Ah, technology. These will be especially helpful when Cathay gets their in-flight WiFi up and running, something which they've been talking about and working on for quite a while now. We've just got to be careful not to spill any of the all-you-can-eat in-flight ramen on our gadgets.

To see exactly why we up and flew to HK last week, check out our coverage of Cathay Pacific's big unveiling event here.

Disclosure: Flights and some accommodations provided by Cathay Pacific, but rest assured that all opinions and photos are our own
